I support the Justice in Policing Act and I firmly believe that you should, too. Too long have we in this country sat by and watched lives lost—Black lives, Brown lives, children’s lives—too much blood to quantify and NONE of it necessary. We NEED police reform. We need EXTENSIVE police reform, and we need it now. I’m calling on you to vote yes on the Justice in Policing Act. Please don’t turn this into a partisan issue; though introduced by Democrats, this bill is the only one far-reaching enough to truly and forever change how we enforce the law in this country. It's been backed by long-time civil-rights organizations, and it's supported by experts. Let's not waste this moment for change on mere politics.

While I support the Justice in Policing Act and firmly believe that you should too, I also believe that it’s missing a crucial piece of legislation. Facial recognition software, as the technology currently stands, is NOT ACCURATE when it comes to ‘recognizing’ faces of color—especially Black and Brown faces. That law enforcement agencies around the country are nevertheless still invested in obtaining and using this technology poses a DIRECT THREAT to our communities of color—especially Black and Brown communities. Please—strengthen the Justice in Policing Act by adding a clause that BANS the use of facial recognition software by law enforcement agencies. Please protect our communities from this new form of technological racism.
